Our Pathways programme offers a comprehensive range of support to help Sixth Form pupils navigate their post-school options.

One of the key components is the weekly ‘Pathways’ activity, which provides pupils with valuable learning and development opportunities. In addition, they receive one-on-one support from tutors and career advisors, ensuring personalized guidance tailored to their individual needs and goals.

The programme includes talks and drop-in sessions with universities and employers, giving pupils direct access to industry insights and university representatives.

To further assist with planning and decision-making, pupils have access to a variety of resources, including INVESTIN Education, Unifrog, and the UCAS website, all of which help guide them through their options.

For pupils applying to highly competitive fields such as Oxbridge, medicine, veterinary, and dentistry, the programme offers tailored support through OPPIDAN Education, which provides interview preparation and specialist application guidance.

There are also opportunities for pupils interested in conservatoires, apprenticeships, or school leaver programmes to receive tailored advice and assistance with their applications.

Pathway Sessions provide our Sixth Formers with a range of valuable experiences to support their academic and personal development. These sessions allow pupils to explore various subjects and opportunities, as well as participate in and lead a variety of activities, including whole school and house events. They are encouraged to reflect on their experiences, highlighting the competencies they have developed, which will be beneficial for future applications.

In addition, Pathway Sessions focus on building employability skills essential for navigating the ever-changing world of work. Through activities, such as, delivering assemblies (public speaking), taking on personal development and leadership roles, and demonstrating reliability and responsibility in the duties programme, pupils are well-equipped for the future. A standout opportunity is delivering a TedX talk, which allows pupils to showcase their communication and leadership abilities.

Pupils explore a variety of post-school options, including degrees, non-university pathways, gap years, and apprenticeships, to help them determine the right pathway for their future.

Part of the process includes completing application forms for UCAS and apprenticeships, writing personal statements with guidance from university admissions teams, and preparing for interviews in different formats—whether online, video, telephone, or face-to-face.

The sessions also provide resources for researching gap year opportunities, ensuring pupils are well-prepared for whatever path they choose.

At the beginning of the academic year, our pupils are attached to a KS3 Form Tutor group. They deliver a cycle of events each Thursday morning.

Week 1 – Preparation of material based on ‘Themes of the Week’.
Week 2 – Delivery of presentation.
Week 3 – Social time with the Form group, organising games, leading discussions on school issues and generating feedback for SLT.

Through this structure, pupils develop their skill set through leadership, public speaking, debate reasoning, empathy, responsibility, and ability to liaise with staff.
