CCF

Stover School is delighted to offer the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) to Senior School pupils. CCF gives young people the life skills and self-confidence to take charge of their lives so they can reach their full potential at school and beyond, including employment.

Clay Shooting

All pupils from both the Preparatory and Senior School are welcome to shoot during their activity period regardless of age or ability. Under the guidance of our coach, Mr John Bannister, pupils are able to develop the skills necessary to shoot clay pigeons. The areas covered include safety, eye dominance, gun fit, cartridges, technique and, of course, learning to understand the important hand eye co-ordination necessary to successfully break moving targets.

Duke Of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels is offered to pupils at Stover from Year 9. The various awards involve sections in volunteering, physical activity and learning a skill over 3 month to a year. All awards also cover planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. A great way to make friends, have fun, build confidence, gain essential skills and employability skills.

Golf

We have a partnership with a local golf club, Stover Golf Club, whose pro, Andy Fox, now delivers two group lessons a week. The aim is to encourage lots of children into the sport and then develop some squads to compete and represent the school in the near future.

Horse Riding

Pupils have the exciting opportunity to participate in the Equestrian Enrichment programme, which takes place at Finlake Riding Centre. They learn a variety of skills, including dressage, cross country, show jumping, hacking and stable management. The lessons are suitable for all ages and levels. There is also opportunities to compete in the School Equestrian Team.

Skiing & Snowboarding Club

Our Ski Club runs every Friday evening during term time from Torquay Alpine Dry Ski Slope. Our ambition has always been to get as many children as possible skiing and improving, whether as total beginners or committed racers. We have pupils who started as beginners and are now regular racers, others who have used Fridays for their Duke of Edinburgh Award or instructor qualifications and experience, and many who just want a fun ski on a Friday afternoon, sometimes before a school or family trip! We also have several strong racers (boys and girls) who compete at the highest levels in the UK. In short we cater for all!

Ten Tors

For pupils who like to push themselves to their limits, the Ten Tors challenge stands alone in its scale and ambition. The challenge takes place on Dartmoor each year and is attempted by thousands of students nationally. The teams navigate 35, 45 or 55 mile routes over the weekend event which is run by the Army. Stover enters several teams each year and training commences in the Autumn Term.

Sports

A variety of sports clubs are offered throughout the year – cricket, badminton, tennis, football, netball, rugby, foot golf, golf, table tennis and fun fitness are just some examples of the sports clubs on offer.
