GCSE Results 2024

Stover pupils are celebrating another outstanding set of GCSE results with over ¼ of all papers receiving top grades (7-9). Particular congratulations to Elen S and Patrick T, who are both moving into Stover School’s Sixth Form, for achieving 11 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 4 grade 7s between them.

Others with 5 or more grade 8s and 9s include Annie A, Hudson C-T, Woody J-B, Michael I, and Katy S. In such a non-selective cohort, great credit must also go to all those who achieved above their nationally scaled target grades, with Elizabeth D, Samuel P, Livvy MC and Sophie P all achieving more than 1½ grades higher than expected in each subject.

New Head, Mrs Caroline Ward, was delighted with the level of academic success achieved by all pupils, noting that it obviously reflects the committed and skilful teaching of all those involved with these pupils, and of course the spirit and determination of the pupils themselves.

A Level Results 2024

Stover School Sixth Form pupils are celebrating a fantastic set of A Level and BTEC results, with over half of all papers in this non-selective cohort receiving grades A* to B. Particular congratulations go to Oliver Q and Jemima Q who both achieved 1A* and 2A grades across the subjects of Biology, Economics, Maths, Physics and Psychology.

Oliver is going to study Robotic Engineering at Bath University and Jemima will study Psychology at Birmingham University. Amy P and Charlotte K both achieved 1A*, 1A and 1B and Amy will be going on to Sheffield University to take a course in Urban Studies and Planning. Luke N with 3 A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths is looking to make it in the world of music.

90% of pupils gained their first choice of university place against a national backdrop of only 82%.

New Head, Caroline Ward, is delighted to see all the students’ efforts and the targeted support provided by Stover’s teachers culminate in such successful and well-deserved outcomes.

GCSE Results 2023

Against a national backdrop of falling GCSE outcomes, reflecting the Government’s commitment to ‘bring grades down following the Covid spikes’, I am delighted to report that this has not been the case at Stover School. Our Year 11 pupils have recorded outcomes that reflect the school’s previous years’ GCSE results; over 85% of the current cohort recorded grades at level 4 or above, compared to the national figure of 68%.

The Head, Mr Notman, said, ‘I am delighted with the endeavour that our pupils have shown and the commitment of our staff in preparing for these GCSE examinations. It is obvious from the more stringent grade boundaries that we have seen this morning that the Government have held true to their promise to make things more difficult for this Year 11. So it is to their absolute credit that, overall, their results stand up against the previous cohort and outstrip national statistics by some distance. Well done, I am proud of your achievements and the resilience that you have shown in the face of more stringent odds. The Government were particularly keen to reduce the number of top grades and so significant credit must go to Daisy, who achieved six 9s and four 8s, Austin with five 9s, one 8 and one 7, Claude, who secured three grade 9s, three 8s and two 7s and Maisy, who achieved two grade 9s, two grade 8s and four grade 7s.

Many congratulations to all of our students who have worked so hard. We are so proud of you all!’

A Level Results 2023

Today, as news around the country reports a significant drop in A-Level results, this year’s cohort of A-Level candidates at Stover School have bucked the national trend with the best publicly examined results the school has seen for over a decade. This fantastic achievement is made by a cohort of pupils who have never experienced sitting public examinations before this summer and who are not academically selected on point of entry to our Sixth Form.

Candidates enjoyed a 100% pass rate, with a third of the grades achieved being A*or A. Over 80% of all entries achieved grades A* to C, the best publicly examined A-Level results Stover School has seen since 2010. The average grade achieved across the entire, non-selective cohort was B.

Particular congratulations should go to Head Girl, Elise, who achieved 4 A*’s and an A grade and is going on to read Chemistry at Manchester University. Ben, who achieved 2 A*’s, an A and a B grade and will be studying Music at Cardiff; Julian, who received an A* and 3 A grades, and following a year out exploring Mexico, will be reading Natural Sciences at Bath and Isabella who achieved 2 A*’s and an A grade and has been awarded a full scholarship to attend the Royal Northern College of Music.

Headmaster, Richard Notman, said “Prior to their A levels this summer, this cohort of pupils have never had the opportunity to sit a formal public examination. I could not be prouder of the way in which the pupils have prepared and the achievement they have made in bucking the national trend and achieving the best A-Level the results our School has seen for over 10 years. These results demonstrate our pupil’s devotion, commitment and resilience. We do not select our pupils for Sixth Form Entry, so for over 80% of all entries to received grade A*s to C is a superb achievement and credit to all of their hard work and dedication as well as the staff and teachers who have helped to prepare, inspire and guide this cohort to such fantastic results. Well done everyone!”
