This week four members of our tennis squad travelled to New Hall School in Essex, to compete in the ISA Tennis National Championships. All four players, Lily H, Fred C, Ned I and Esme S did themselves and Stover very proud with their performances.
The morning was the singles tournament consisting of 64 boys and 64 girls. All four stover players got through to the last 16 round which was a great start. Lily went onto the quarterfinals where she narrowly missed out on a semi final spot via a tie break. Freddie C won his last 16, quarter final and then lost to the eventual winner from the host school New Hall. However, Freddie did win his 3rd place play off against Finborough to medal and finish 3rd overall.
They took this confidence into the doubles in the afternoon and both won their first rounds against Westonbirt School and North Bridge House, to land a quarter final spot. The girls had a tough draw and played New Hall next who were the top seeds. A close game but a step too far, but an outstanding effort all day. Freddie & Ned continued their winning streak and won their quarterfinal against Sherfield and their semi final against New Hall seed 3&4. In the final they faced an impressive 1&2 seed from New Hall and started well going 2-0 up, however the final score was 3-2 to New Hall.
Many thanks to New Hall School for host and to ISA for organising such an enjoyable event. We will be back next year! A fantastic day of tennis, many congratulations to all four players, they were a credit to the school.
